Physicians

Mindful Living & Stress Reduction for Physicians is an intensive training in mindfulness and meditation. By applying mindfulness to our professional interactions with patients, staff, and yes, even third party payors, we can rekindle the passion to practice medicine and recapture that same purpose that sent us to medical school in the first place. Objectives for undertaking this training include:

  • Increased self-awareness during interactions with patients and colleagues in the healthcare environment.
  • Increase mental concentration during patient encounters and other tasks in a clinical setting.
  • Enhance physician wellness and job satisfaction.
  • Increase physician understanding of mind-body therapies (e.g., meditation, yoga, MBSR).

Attorneys

Mindful Living & Stress Reduction for Attorneys offers participants a conceptual basis of mindfulness and more importantly, a variety of experiential activities as a taste of mindfulness. By applying mindfulness to our professional interactions with clients, staff, and other pertinent parties, we can modulate our stress levels through understanding, acceptance, and right action. Our work becomes a manifestation of our personal values, and our personal values transform in ways that benefit us and the people in our lives.

The legal profession has found great use for mindfulness practice. Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation sponsored the seminar "Mindfulness in the Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution" in 2002 in response to Professor Leonard Riskin's influential paper "The Contemplative Lawyer" published in the Harvard Negotiation Law Review. Mindfulness programs have been taught to students, professors of Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Columbia Law Schools, Boalt Hall of UC Berkeley, the University of Missouri-Columbia (more info) and Pepperdine University as well as practicing lawyers and judges from around the nation.

Teachers

Mindful Living & Stress Reduction for Educators is an opportunity for teachers and principals to cultivate a level of awareness in the classroom and school that fosters more effective interaction and learning. The vital profession of teaching calls for knowledge, compassion, and equanimity; all of which are benefits of a mindfulness practice. Pure knowledge without integration into our lives and the lives of our students is of dubious value. As Isaac Newton noted “to arrive at the simplest truth requires years of contemplation - not activity, not reasoning, not busy behavior of any kind, not reading, not talking, not making effort, not thinking.”

Mindful Living & Stress Reduction in the Workplace

  • Out of clutter, find simplicity.
  • From discord, find harmony.
  • In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.
-Albert Einstein, Three Rules of Work

Mindfulness in the workplace is an integration of a virtuous way of living into the way we make a living. Success is not just a measure of the bottom line; it’s a reflection of the corporate culture and integrity of the organization. Mindfulness training in the workplace offers participants opportunities to cultivate a fresh and focused perspective. Thee clarity and insight which results from a mindfulness practice spins off benefits that permeate the organization. Managers and employees become more focused, less distractible, less reactive and communicate more effectively. The dichotomy of a work persona and home persona becomes less apparent as mindfulness calls for being real in every setting.
